First Choice Power Fund has awarded a Community Classroom Innovation Grant to Kristen McReynolds (right) and Ginny Raska (left) at Sweeny Junior High School. McReynolds, an 8th grade English teacher, and Raska, the librarian, are working together to select books for the Sweeny Junior High grant proposal, Bulldog Books Online: Podcasting Literature. This grant will provide books and equipment for students to create podcast book reviews which will be shared on the school website. Utilizing the popular technology of podcasting along with classroom group literature circles, this project will cover a wide range of state learning objectives in reading, writing, public speaking, and technology skills and provide students with opportunities to showcase their creativity. The Sweeny Junior High grant of $2,800 is among the 23 grants awarded in Texas for a total of $50,000 given by the First Choice Power Fund to provide resources to teachers with creative and innovative teaching ideas. |
