Sweeny Scholar Program

Sweeny Scholars Program follows the requirements of the Texas Globe Scholars Program and requirements set by Phillips Petroleum Company. Sweeny Scholars are students who have completed a specific curriculum that provides a high level of skills and readiness for the labor market or college. Students must maintain a grade of 75 or above in these courses. Sweeny Scholars are recognized in their senior year at the awards ceremony and in a directory for area employers.

  • Physics I, Physics II

  • Geography
  • World History
  • U.S. History
  • Government (1/2 credit)
  • Economics (1/2 credit)

Languages Other than English:
  • Two credits of the same language

  • One and one-half credits of physical education or a PE equivalent credit

  • Option 1:
  • One additional math credit that requires Algebra II as a prerequisite,
  • One additional science credit chosen from the list above.
  • One and one-half credits of electives.
  • Option 2:
  • A coherent sequence of courses for career and technology preparation including Tech Prep courses.
  • Option 3:
  • A specialization consisting of state-approved, college-preparatory courses in fine arts, languages other than English, technology applications, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies.
