THE DOW CHEMICAL COMPANY

UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS ALUMNI ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, ENGINEERING AND NATURAL SCIENCES

This scholarship was endowed in 1990 through the personal contributions of employees of The Dow Chemical Company, who are alumni of The University of Texas at Austin, and with matching contributions from The Dow Chemical Company.  The endowment for this Scholarship is approximately $250,000.

The purpose of this Scholarship is to provide, from endowment interest income, scholarship awards to students enrolled in The University of Texas at Austin and seeking degrees in the following areas:  the College of Business Administration, the College of Engineering, and the College of Natural Sciences.

Award of the scholarships will be made through the Scholarship Offices of those Colleges.  Income from the endowment for scholarships will be allocated to three specific accounts in the following proportions:

College of Business Administration - 25%
College of Natural Sciences - 25%
College of Engineering - 50%

The amount of each award will be $1,000, with distribution to be made in increments of $500 in the Fall and $500 in the Spring semester.  The number of scholarships awarded each year will be determined as a result of interest income from the previous year.

Scholarship Recipient Selection Criteria:

  • Students must be children or grandchildren of employees or retirees of The Dow Chemical Company and subsidiaries where Dow holds an ownership position of 50% or greater.
  • Each college within The University of Texas (listed above) will be responsible for choosing its respective scholarship recipients.
  • First preference will be given to the most academically qualified students based on high school or college grades, score on either the ACT or SAT test score, extra curricular activities, or previous college work.
  • Applicants must re-apply each year to be eligible for the award.  They must be registered students in one of the above named Colleges and in good academic standing.
