Service List |
I provide individual sessions for students to assist with a variety of educational and personal concerns. The primary purpose of these sessions is to help students explore their concerns, make appropriate plans of action, and be successful in following through with their plans. |
Individual Counseling |
In some instances, students help each other by working in groups with leadership from a counselor. Group counseling allows students to share ideas about specific issues such as problem-solving, career choices, educational planning, and peer relationships, as well as helping them use these ideas to resolve their concerns. Group sessions usually involve small groups of students , who are led by a counselor and meet once or twice per week for a specific number of sessions. |
Group Counseling |
I often meet with classes to help students learn specific information about themselves and their development. These groups are instructional in nature and focus on topics such as self-concept development, study skills, friendship, health habits, career information, and good citizenship. |
Classroom Guidance Lessons |
I help students, parents, and teachers by gathering information about student abilities, behaviors, and achievement so they can help make appropriate decisions about educational placement and instruction. In helping with these decisions, I use tests, inventories, observations, interviews, and other procedures to gather information. |
Student Appraisal / Gifted and Talented |
Referral |
I serve as a referral agent to help students and their families receive assistance from other programs and services in the school system and from agencies outside the school. I work closely with teachers and administrators in these referral processes. |
Parent Workshops/Seminars |
I coordinate and facilitate a workshop called “Parents on Board” for parents and/or guardians of school-age children. Parental involvement is critical to every child’s school “career.” In just three meetings, parents will learn how to “get on board” with your children’s educators by: · creating a school-smart home · Establishing a working relationship with the school · Using effective discipline and encouragement · Promoting attitudes that build success · Coaching your child in reading, writing, spelling, math, science, and social studies (without being an expert!) Signing up is easy—just contact the counselor! |
